I am getting sod-all done this morning, as my as my glasses are in the opticians until lunchtime getting their new lenses put in, and I am currently wearing an old pair which, I have discovered, do not aid my vision very much at all. Plus, they pinch behind one ear.

Oh well, only an hour to go...

Grr, I hate waiting for new lenses. When I were young, way back, it used to take two days to put the lenses in the glasses, which was a bit of a problem for me, because I couldn't focus on anything further away than two feet. My classmates used to think of many ways to get amusement from this situation. Hope the waiting is over by now.

Yes, the gift of vision was mercifully restored to me at lunchtime. Joy. They're lovely new clean scratch-free lenses too! I'm not actually all that blind, but I basically only don't wear my glasses when I'm in bed, in the shower, or swimming. I find it really rather disturbing not being able to see properly - I keep squinting pathetically at things.

I know quite a few people who are as short-sighted as me, if not worse, who don't wear their glasses/lenses all the time, and I really can't fathom why anyone would want to do that. Unless you like the world as an impressionistic blur, of course.

I remember missing the impressionistic blur in a silly maudlin sort of way when I got the laser op. After all, it had been with me as long as I could remember, and sometimes it's nice to switch off the outside world as if it were a television (on the principle that, if I can't see it, it's not happening).

Hmm, yes, I wonder how I'd feel about it if the option wasn't there any more!

I periodically consider getting my eyes lasered, but there's the expense, and the (probably completely irrational, at this stage) fear that Something Will Go Wrong. I also don't really mind wearing my glasses, and I always find them weirdly attractive on other people (I have a long history of fancying/going out with the bespectacled, I am obviously trying to keep myopia in the gene pool).

My laser op gradually faded (can happen if you're really blind to start with) and I did have the option of having it topped up for free. I just couldn't be bothered. Like you, I don't really mind wearing glasses, now that they're not thick and heavy any more.
