we live in the angles
Feb. 18th, 2005 10:18 amTo my great shame, this is yet another hungover post, for in my state of post-gig adrenaline-fuelled "why, I seem to be drink-proof"-ness, I managed to consume two glasses of Student Reception Winetm and several pints of beer. This concoction did not make for a happy Lisa on awakening this morning. Urgh.
Drunkening aside, it was a great evening. We did a sort of gig of two halves - one set of old material (which I managed not to forget, yay me) and one set of newies, both featuring some tunes with extra brass courtesy of the nice folks who played for us in the Spiegeltent and Jurgen's mad arranging skillz. The new stuff set was a bit nerve-racking, not least because the onstage sound was a little odd, and John had managed to drum through his bass drum at the end of the first set (a hasty impromptu replacement was arranged during the interval), and Simon's Crap Banjo Of Doom was being particularly craptastic - but we got through it! And people seemed to like the new things! Hoorah!
There then ensued the aforementioned drunkening with various folks, including the lovely
amphoteric and the equally lovely
distortionghost, who I finally got to meet (and traumatize by bringing her for pints to the site of her teenage drinking misadventures).
distortionghost also took some excellent photos of the gig, which reveal that the lighting made us all look like we were in a German expressionist film, or a Robert Wilson play, or something. Paul, in particular, seems to be LOOMING. Great stuff.
