I am making slides for a presentation on object-oriented programming concepts, and I have found myself using, er, a certain familiar family cat as an example...

My god, JuJu looks even more evil than usual there.

OH MY GOD.

I should really have included a terrify() method.

I didn't know you were a programmer.

I'm a sort of ersatz programmer - I'm at the very technical end of technical writing, which means I've had to pick up a few languages along the way in order to read/understand other people's code, though I've very rarely had to use any of them myself to do more than write sample snippets.

One of the nice things about NewJob is that I've been actively encouraged to revive/improve my coding, and some of the writers here have organized a Java study group. I'm at the "rusty but knew it once" end of the group, so I've agreed to give a presentation on some basic concepts this week. Though the terrifying images therein may put them off OOP for life...

Well, the audience will either be greatly amused...or scared witless.

Brilliant. :-)

I am also mildly concerned by the fact that I seem to have coloured the slide to match my LJ.

I think you need some human contact.

What, apart from the invisible people in the computer?

Heh, I've just realized that even giving the presentation won't involve meeting anyone, as I'm doing it over VC.

Especially apart from the invisible people in the computer. Look what we're driving you to. :-)

Even when I switch off the computer, I will be able to feel JuJu's eyes burning holes in my back.

Hmmm. I showed [livejournal.com profile] perditathecat Juju's picture on screen after tapping it several times, and she...started purring. I think maybe she expected a bug.

Yikes! Does Ju Ju have an actual feline admirer? It'd be a first...

Sadly, not a chance. Perdita bravely defends the cottage against all other kitties, usually by beating her front paws against the window whilst sporting a tail which could be used to clean bottles with. During her first stint in Kitty Colditz the cattery, the cattery lady let her out of her cage at one point, and she apparently stalked up the row of cages, pausing to hiss at Every. Other. Cat.

So I doubt Perdita will be joining the Juju Fan Club any time soon, alas.

Gotta love visual aids and don't be ashamed to use what works. I still tell my Old English students to think of the phrase "the dog's bollocks" when trying to remember which party in a sentence should be possesive and which simply being possessed. It works! ... Well, not so much for the Americans but they usually come round with a blush once it's explained.

Ha!! That's priceless! Is FluffyKitten a subclass of Feline along with MangyCat? also with a picture like that I'd like to see an attack() method.

if (kitty->isHungry())
{
kitty->attackAndKill();
}
else
{
kitty->purr();
}

okay, enough nerdiness. back to programming! err...

That kitten has a cute() method, rather than a terrify() one.
