I bought a new toothbrush yesterday! Normally, this wouldn't be particularly exciting, except it is a PULSAR toothbrush, and I only discovered it was battery-operated after I opened it (why, yes, I did buy it in a hurry). It has many strange plastic vibrating bits and is worryingly reminiscent of the kind of thing you can buy in the Gents' in Mulligans these days. Apparently it has magnificent tooth-cleaning powers.

I have also made an appointment for my *cough*first dental checkup in about three years*cough*, which gives the PULSAR, ooh, about a fortnight to make me into a vision of shiny-toothed loveliness who doesn't need any fillings and won't be given out to for not flossing often enough. In fairness, I don't think there's anything drastically wrong with my teeth, but then again, that's what B. thought before a bit of one of his FELL OFF, necessitating costly root canal work. Also, pain. Eek.

I haven't been to the dentist since I was fifteen.

OH MY GOD.

If I can do it, so can you!

It is not a fun prospect, though.

But you'll be fine because of the fluoride in the water. Although that's how all Americans get brainwashed, mind.

I went a few years recently without a trip to the dentist, and finally I got a cavity and decided to go, and I got complimented on my brushing.

Why, does your dentist perform several functions?

If it hurts, don't go back to that dentist. I have had good dentists do fillings and even a wisdom tooth extraction without pain (the wisdom tooth one was a bit sore afterwards but ibuprofen did the business) and I've been to one crap dentist who managed to hurt me just cleaning my teeth. It shouldn't hurt.
I don't know about root canal work though, that sounds a bit full on.

Apparently it involves ... scraping. INSIDE THE TOOTH.

*runs away and hides*

Actually, Brian's pain was from the horrible broken tooth, AFAIR the actual fixing bit was just rather unpleasant.
