Apparently a house round the corner from us was struck by lightning last night.

Oh! Do houses here not routinely have lightning rods on the top? I never even thought to look. We believe our house was hit once when I was a kid--it was a summer thunderstorm and the fan running in my room CAUGHT ON FIRE--but the rod would've sent most of the charge fairly harmlessly into the ground.
