slowly coagulating
Jul. 27th, 2006 01:54 pmHaving obviously not learned a jot from my experience of the weekend, I awoke today with yet another hangover, though mercifully of a much more minor nature. Said crapulence was invoked by going to the opening of my friend Beth's art exhibition (featuring WINE) and then going to a barbecue (with more WINE, followed by our host's introducing us to the intriguing combination that is dark chocolate and peaty single malt Scotch). Fun, though, and the exhibition was great - Dublin folks should go along. It's in the Lab gallery on Foley St., just off Talbot St., and her work is on the ground floor and really lovely. I must go back myself for another look when the room is no longer full of milling people guzzling free booze.
I ended up talking to a friend of mine at the barbecue about this excellent book, as he is an enthusiastic cook, and was shocked to hear that he had ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in reading it, and gave the impression that he thought that knowing how cooking worked spoiled the magic, or something. I, on the other hand, am absolutely fascinated by finding out the chemical changes that happen when eggs scramble, or looking at the molecular structure of flavour compounds, etc. Perhaps I am a scientist at heart.
