oh for heaven's sake
Jul. 3rd, 2006 03:55 pmSo. I was just out in the Spar near our work buying a snack, and I noticed that the Irish Daily Mirror had the arresting headline "SEX CLASSES FOR KIDS AGED SIX" (with the "SIX" in red for added emphasis). Intrigued, I read on to see what abominations were being inflicted upon the Plain Children Of Ireland by the evil Department of Education, and discovered that the depravity in question consisted solely of the following statement being discovered by a Co. Meath father in his six-year-old's school copybook:
"A girl has a vulva. A boy has a penis."
The father in question "slammed" this as "graphic", "strong language", and "completely unsuitable".
Now, as far as I remember, when I was six I knew that I had a vulva, and that boys had penises, and this did not seem to be a particularly shocking thing to know. Does he want the child growing up referring to her "front bottom" until marriage, or something? Or indeed, not knowing that boys and girls have different "front bottoms"? Sigh.
