leedy: (Blurrrrrry)
Favourite moment from my friends' wedding at the weekend: the groom and I standing outside the reception marquee at about 2am, gazing out across the fields and discussing how brilliant it was to see all your friends up dancing like eejits and smiling at each other. "It's, like, a great feeling of..." I said, and then we both simultaneously said "BONHOMIE".

Oh, it was a splendid weekend, though I'm not sure if my liver will ever forgive me. Lovely ceremony on Friday, followed by an equally lovely reception here. Top food, great speeches, huge amounts of the aforementioned bonhomie, lots and lots and LOTS of dancing (including the bride and groom dancing on chairs to Stevie Wonder), and a highly entertaining dance-off-cum-cutlery-brandishing to "Rasputin" that resulted in several people waking up wondering why they had fork marks on their arms. Then marvelling at the huge old oak trees looming through the beautiful misty dawn before getting a lift back to our B&B for much-needed sleep. On Saturday there was a barbecue in the same venue, followed by sprawling around on the lawns in the sunshine eating and drinking beer and engaging in ever-increasing feats of laziness (Carol: "I think one of that pile of cherries in my lap is a bit far away, can someone pass it over to me?") and watching the boys get hypercompetitive at boules and laughing until I was nearly ill at various stupid jokes. More beer brought about a touching reunion of the groom's teenage punk band with a song about going to the Chinese takeaway in Templeogue, and me eventually getting squiffy enough to regale everyone with a rendition of "Me Husband's Got No Courage In Him" (ah, you can't beat an old English impotence ballad to get the party started), and, er, more beer. Also, cheese. Super, super fun, though my head was not quite right for quite some time yesterday.

Also top bonus marks to our B&B hosts, who not only made us a large curative cooked breakfast when we fell out of bed at 12.30 on Saturday, but then drove us to the barbecue. Bless.

(Oh, and Those Who Know About Fabrics - [livejournal.com profile] biascut, I'm looking at you - how does one get creases out of silk velvet? Although my posh frock survived the wedding experience relatively unscathed, despite my spilling a glass of Prosecco on myself while toasting the happy couple because I am the clumsiest woman alive, it has some crease-marks in the lap that I don't think normal dry-cleaning will get out. [livejournal.com profile] lazy_hoor has a steam-emitting thing that we think might do the trick, any other thoughts? Or should I just just try and find a specialist cleaner?)
